  1. I got this trailer of a program that will air March 26 on ABC with chef Jamie Oliver in an first grade elementary school class. It's a short video clip promoting his Food Revolution program. He's taken some nice looking produce into a school and asked the kids to identify various vegetables. Here's the clip:

    As you might imagine, these kids were pretty clueless in regard to there vegetable recognition skills. Of course an edited version on TV is going to show what the producers want you see, but I suspect that in many parts of the this country the outcome would be similar.

    There's something kind of creepy about a society in which most of us are isolated from a very basic, essential, and necessary component of life. The fact that we live in a time period in which agriculture has become occupation of only a small group of people represents "some" kind of progress, but at what cost? For no particular reason, I kind of get an uneasy feeling that this phenomena can't be a good thing in the long run.
